New Year’s Day: Live Music in Chicago

Posted on December 25th, 2009 by

Here in Chicago, you can start the New Year off in so many different ways. You can take on the annual 5K Walk/Run in Lincoln Park, or you might start your day a bit later (perhaps with the “hair of the dog”). Or, check out some of the live music going on around Chicago New Year’s Day:

three-picsLEIGHTON MEESTER AT THE UNDERGROUND

We’ll start the lineup with the musical newcomer of the group: “Gossip Girl” star Leighton Meester hasn’t been on the scene long, but she’s certainly made an impression. Fans of the show were surprised to discover she was the guest spot in Cobra Starship’s “Good Girls Go Bad.” Her next stop? She’ll be at VIP hideaway The Underground, fresh off her first official single, a collaboration with R&B artist Robin Thicke (watch video here). Doors open at 10:00 p.m.

“JERSEY BOYS” AT THE VENUE

If you’re looking for something a bit more snappy (or you’re still upset you never saw “Jersey Boys“), head to The Venue at Horseshoe Casino Hammond for a special performance from former “Jersey Boys” cast members Christian Hoff, Daniel Reichard, Michael Longoria, and Andrew Gehling. They’ll be entertaining the crowd with some of the hits of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, plus other hit songs from the era starting at 2:00 p.m.

CHRIS ISAAK AT HOUSE OF BLUES

Rock ‘n’ roll enthusiasts will want to check out the act lined up at the House of Blues: singer, actor, and two-time Grammy nominee Chris Isaak will be taking the stage the night of January 1. Earlier this year he released his first studio album in seven years, entitled “Mr. Lucky,” and has also been keeping busy as the host of The Chris Isaak Hour on the Bio channel. See him live at the House of Blues, 9:00 p.m.
