It’s All New Around The Chicago Skydeck

Posted on July 16th, 2009 by

theledge1Across the entire country, people know that the tallest building this nation can boast is atop the Chicago horizon. Many Americans may not know that the former Sears Tower, as of Thursday, July 16, 2009 is now the Willis Tower.

A historic event for the skyscraper once the tallest in the world and still the tallest in the Western Hemisphere. Any locals and visitors will be drawn to the new attraction at Chicago Skydeck on 103rd floor of Willis Tower, the LEDGE. Not for the faint of heart, the glass encasement goes 4.3 feet out into the cityscape for a truly unique perspective.

The Chicago Skydeck is open 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. with last entry 30 minutes before close.

Slow Ride, Take It Easy

The summer interns at Concierge Preferred took a ride with the Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co. recently. We were treated like royalty from start to finish and for just $29 a ticket (or 10% less if purchased online) you can be too!

We took the “Signature Tour” which started off at Millennium Park and took us all over downtown. We saw The Art Institute of Chicago, the Michigan Avenue Bridge, Shedd Aquarium, The Field Museum, Navy Pier, Chicago Skydeck, John Hancock Observatory, and more.

Our tour guide Baron was entertaining and extremely informative from start to finish. If you want to know what monuments are featured in The Dark Knight; what areas of town were modeled after Paris, France; or, know who constructed what building in what year and out of what material, Baron, is your man.

The actual ticket for this experience is a Chicago guide chock full of maps, tips and discounts, including coupons for a free bag of Garrett’s Popcorn, a free chocolate bar at Hershey’s Chicago, $15 off tickets to Blue Man Group, 10% off at Macy’s on State Street, and much more. In addition, every rider gets a complimentary Chicago Trolley t-shirt.

CONCIERGE TIP: Chicago Trolley offers tours around the Chicago area seven days a week, last pick up at 5pm. They are open 363 days a year.
