Chocolate cupcakes are a year-round staple at more, but it’s during the Valentine’s season that chocolate fever reaches its zenith. In honor of Valentine’s Day, more has brought back its truffle cupcake “moresels,” more’s mini cupcakes presented in a heart-shaped box.
The shop is also lining its shelves with new flavors of aphrodisiac-rich chocolate cupcakes. Bridging the gap between candy and cupcake, the truffle moresels consist of a rich cake surrounding a creamy truffle center. Perfect for pampering one’s sweetheart, this holiday treat is offered in a heart-shaped box reminiscent of a classic Valentine’s box of chocolates, and will be available for in-store purchase or by delivery leading up to Valentine’s Day.
The newest flavors include Chocolate Champagne (chocolate cake, Valrhona mousse center, Champagne buttercream), Chocolate Pomegranate (chocolate cake, chocolate-pomegranate liqueur mousse center, pomegranate buttercream) and Chocolate Strawberry (chocolate cake, strawberry buttercream, dark chocolate curls). More will also redecorate two of its fan favorites, the signature “more” and the Red Velvet, with new garnishes. The “more” will feature hearts and the phrase, “love more,” while the Red Velvet will be garnished with a white chocolate square and red hearts.

Chicago sure has its fair share of cupcake shops (Sprinkles, More, Sugar Bliss, Sweet Mandy B’s, to name a few), all serving up their own interpretation of what they consider the perfect cake. Well there’s another one to add to the list, and we’re not exactly complaining—even if we overdosed on Christmas cookies. And we’re not sure what you’re doing for lunch this Friday, but it’s the grand opening of CRUMBS Bakeshop, and the first 1,000 customers will get a free cupcake
.
Husband and wife team Mia and Jason Bauer opened their first CRUMBS Bakeshop back in 2003 on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It didn’t take long before they expanded to twenty-five locations on the East Coast and six locations on the West Coast. Lucky for us, Madison Street in the midst of Chicago’s Loop neighborhood is the first Midwestern location for the rapidly expanding cupcake biz.
While you’ll find cupcakes a plenty—more than 50 varieties baked fresh daily and a new cupcake of the week debuting each Monday—CRUMBS also specializes in other baked goods, such as breakfast pastries and buttery croissants, decadent cookies and more. In fact, choose from the wall-to-wall sweets, all ripe for the taking—and eating. And speaking of eating, if you’re dining in, your goods are served on real china like a grown up tea party.

After attending a private media party for Sprinkles Cupcakes last week, I can officially tell you that everything you’ve heard about them is true – they’re amazing. Sweet without the sickening and overall, an indulgence worth every single calorie.
For those of you not familiar with Sprinkles, the company opened the world’s first cupcake bakery in Beverly Hills back in 2005. Based on location and taste, Sprinkles has garnered long lines of devoted Hollywood stars looking for a sugar fix. We think it has something to do with the fact that Sprinkles cupcakes are baked fresh in small batches throughout the day, handcrafted from the finest ingredients and contain no preservatives, trans fats or artificial flavors. I was told that my key lime cupcake was made with fresh squeezed lime juice and let me tell you, it tasted like it.
Don’t take my word for it, taste for yourself. On Monday, July 26, celebrity couple Giuliana and Bill Rancic will be on site for the opening of Sprinkles seventh retail location, right in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood. The dynamic duo will be on site from 11AM-1PM to greet customers, sign autographs and take photos.
With regular, gluten-free and vegan options on the rotating list of flavors—think cinnamon sugar, summer cherry and peanut butter chocolate—everyone can satisfy their sweet tooth. And keep your eye out for the Sprinkles truck. The eager and friendly Sprinkles staff will be distributing FREE cupcakes during opening week!

It took Tiffany Sewall to combine the guilty pleasure from our childhood days, with that of our three o’clock adult snack attack. Sewall and her hubby Chris just launched Flirty Cupcakes, a concept that was literally born while driving in her neighborhood and passing a group of kids around an ice cream truck.
Unlike the rusty ice cream truck stocked with sugar-laden treats, the powder blue Flirty Cupcake van attracts attention in a completely different way. Baker James Cox, formerly of Japonais, whips up the seven varieties (and a weekly special) fresh each day. And when they are sold out, that’s it until the next day. With flavors like the Curious George (banana chocolate cupcake with a salted caramel buttercream frosting) and the McDreamy (chocolate cupcake with a chocolate cream cheese filling), we’re pretty sure they’re going to sell fast. Cupcakes cost $3.25 for one, $35 for a dozen, $5.25 for a sampler pack of four minis and $42 for 36 minis.
Follow Flirty Cupcakes on Twitter and Facebook for their daily routing schedule and feel free to tell them where you are and they might just show up. And for those of you looking to get more creative than bagels or donuts, you can place an order for 12 or more via the contact page on their website.
