Despite only being on the scene for a few months, 2 Sparrows in Lincoln Park is already growing.
The restaurant is adding a monthly beer dinner series, foraying into the third meal of the day after focusing on breakfast, lunch and brunch for the last four weeks.
Since 2 Sparrows emphasizes seasonal, locally-sourced produce, it will highlight well-known breweries across the Midwest through guided tastings, which will be paired with food cooked by Executive Chef Gregory Ellis.
The first installment of the series will be on Dec. 9, and Finch’s Beer Company will be the beverage of honor. Finch’s Head Brewer Richard Grant and Brewers Charlie Davis and Mike Demetrus will be there to talk about their beer, how it’s produced, and why it goes well with the American food Ellis will be preparing.
The menu has already been announced, and entrees include country pate and pork rilette (with Finch’s Cutthroat Pale Ale), scallop with crispy pig trotter (with Finch’s Golden Wing Blond Ale), porchetta with a sunny side egg (with Finch’s Threadless IPA), malted crepes with blueberry mascarpone (with Finch’s Smoked Honey Dunkelweiss).
These dinners will take place at 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. that night, and tickets are $60. Reservations are highly suggested, and you can do that by calling 773-234-2320.

As G. Gordon Liddy once said, “Obviously, crime pays, or there’d be no crime.” Nowhere is that more evident than at the Chicago History Museum in November. The month is dedicated to looking at some of the more infamous criminal events in Chicago.
On Wednesday, Nov. 2, Leigh Bienen, Director of the Chicago Historical Homicide Project, will hold a lecture talking about the history and nature of murder in Chicago. She will highlight some forgotten cases, and compare and contrast past patterns of murders to present day homicides. On Tuesday, Nov. 8, mob expert Arthur Bilek will have a talk on the history of the mafia in Chicago. John M. Hagedorn, inner-city gang expert and professor of criminal justice, will host a seminar on Tuesday, Nov. 15 on the history and impacts of gangs in Chicago. All three of these sessions will begin at 7 p.m., and admission is $10 for each.
Tours will also be held. Excursions include the “Chicago Outfit” bus tour on Nov. 5, which will show some legendary organized crime scenes, and “Murder and Mayhem in Chicago,” examining crime history on the North and Northwest Sides of the city on Nov. 12 and the South and West Sides on Nov. 19. All tours are from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and tickets are $45.
And if that’s not enough, the Chicago History Museum is screening Madness in the White City on Nov. 13 at 1:30 p.m. The film is on H.H. Holmes, one of America’s first serial killers. Holmes’ story is an intriguing one – his operated a dummy hotel during the 1893 World’s Fair that was used primarily for murder. The screening is free with museum admission.
The Chicago History Museum is located at 1601 N. Clark Street. Admission is $14 for adults, $12 for students and seniors, and free for children under 12.

Though Chicago’s famous Shedd Aquarium may have all of the Stingrays, Freshwater Rays, Cownose Rays, and Mangrove Whiptail Rays that you could possibly imagine, the Lincoln Park Zoo will have a special kind of ray on its grounds this week: Sugar Ray.
The well-known ‘90s pop rock band will headline the newest segment of the summer concert series—Jammin’ at the Zoo—this Friday, July 22 at 7 p.m. Mark McGrath and his band will treat listeners to favorite hits that (warning!) may induce a bit of pre-millennium nostalgia: “Fly”, “Every Morning” and “When It’s Over”. Sugar Ray will be joined by indie rock band Bronze Radio Return.
Guests are encouraged to come early to check out the various animal exhibits—new this summer? A baby White-Cheeked Gibbon, Hoffman’s Two-Toed Sloth, and European White Stork!—before grabbing their blanket and spreading out on the zoo’s sprawling South Lawn. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and food and beverage will be available for purchase once in the zoo.
Purchase tickets ahead of time (the last concert, with OneRepublic, was sold out!) for $23 by calling the box office or purchasing online here (lpzoo.org). Tickets can also be bought at the gate for $28, if still available when Friday rolls around.
Can’t make it out to this show? The final installment of Jammin’ at the Zoo will be held on August 26 with Colbie Caillat.
Jammin’ at the Zoo is sponsored by 101.9 The MIX, United Airlines and Pepsi and all proceeds from the concert will support the programs and animals at Lincoln Park Zoo, and help keep it free and open every day of the year.
For questions about the event or to purchase tickets, contact the Lincoln Park Zoo box office at 312-742-2283.

If you like Harry Potter, good food, movies, and murder mysteries then I have something you will want to read. Watson Adventures, the veteran organizer of witty scavenger hunts, is debuting new Chicago adventures in Lincoln Park and at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum just in time for summer.
On Saturday, June 18, join in the Munch Around Lincoln Park Scavenger Hunt from noon until 2:30 p.m. For $19.50 per person, participants can treat their taste buds to an adventure while exploring this eclectic neighborhood. Highlights include Dorothy and friends in Oz Park, micro mansions, misplaced Parisians, Founding Fathers loitering outside a pub, hidden oases, one of the city’s oldest houses, Dillinger’s death spot, a sculpture that invites you to play, and a creepy sunbather.
Along the way you’ll be stopping to sample a variety of gourmet delights, such as cow tippin’ ice cream, surprising pretzel sandwiches, seductive cupcakes, hot dogs that starred on the Food Network, and drinks that made Rachael Ray squeal with delight. Bring $10 cash for food purchases.
The scavenger hunts feature Watson Adventures’ distinctive formula of challenging participants with sharp questions infused with historical and cultural twists. The adventures are like walking tours spiked with caffeine: You learn about the area you hunt in, but at your own pace and with the excitement of a game.
The hunts feature teams of two to six people hunting for answers to tricky, humorous questions about the unusual places and things they discover. Since 1999, more than 150,000 people have participated in the company’s unique brand of scavenger hunts.

Friday, March 25th saw the ribbon cutting of the newest addition to the Massage Envy fleet – the Lincoln Park location at 1845 N. Clybourn Ave.
This upscale spa experience left my muscles forgetting the many hours logged hauling a gargantuan purse filled with “necessities” and that one time when I found a pair of shoes I loved and subsequently bought them in every color.
I was given a complimentary massage by one of the talented and professional Massage Therapists, who used a series of rhythmic compression techniques to relax my tense muscles and erase the stresses of the day, without the help of the champagne being served! Although, that just added to the luxurious feel to this modern, garden-like oasis.
Massage Envy provides more than just de-stressing and soothing massages; their therapeutic massages can actually strengthen your immune system, so you have no excuse for not giving yourself a day of pampering and bliss.
The Lincoln Park location is now open to the public, so book your appointment for their special Introductory one-hour massage ($49) or the Introductory one-hour Healthy Skin facial session ($59), or any of the other fabulous and detoxifying treatments available by calling 773.904.1100 or by visiting their website at www.massageenvy.com.

A line like that could have only meant one of two things – Justin Bieber concert tickets, or a new Apple product launch.
On Friday, March 11, it was the latter. Apple CEO Steve Jobs succeeded once again in creating such a huge hype around a new iProduct and garnered extensive lineups throughout America. Fans lined up at the Michigan Avenue Apple Store and the Lincoln Park Apple store, as early as 6:30 a.m., for the release of the iPad 2.
Armed with Dunkin’ Donuts coffees or Starbucks lattes in hand, the line quickly accumulated to wrap around the entire block behind the Michigan Avenue’s Apple Store, up Erie Street and continued down the Magnificent Mile. By 5 p.m., when the device went on sale, the impatience and hunger had grown exponentially in the long line up. Rania, a Chicagoan, was anxious to get her hands on the iPad 2 for her husband.
“I’m surprising him with this at Tavern on Rush tonight,” she said.
It wasn’t difficult to make new friends in the line up; the dedicated fans can find common ground with any other iFan out there. Strangers became friends, and one such group of previous strangers had made plans to go to the Signature Room at the 95th for a celebratory alcoholic beverage after their hours of waiting in the cold. Josh, of Vernon Hills, IL, said that before he went back to the suburbs, he was going to take his shiny new iPad 2 to Navy Pier and take photos of the amazing views with the new front and back-facing cameras.
