Navy Pier, Inc. will feature a public exhibition highlighting the five finalists vying to redesign Navy Pier’s outdoor spaces beginning this week.
The design firm’s complete visions will be on exhibit at the Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF) on Feb. 2 and displayed at multiple satellite locations around the city and online.
Prior to the exhibition, a public presentation will take place on today and Feb. 1 at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), where the design teams will discuss their plans.
The 30-mintue presentations at the MCA will be open to the public and will include a short question and answer period. Three of the finalists will present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Jan. 31 and the other two will present from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 1. All presentations will be held in the MCA Theater.
This exhibition will be another step in the process of selecting the design team that will work with NPI to develop the “Pierscape,” an important part of the Centennial Vision planning framework for the redevelopment of Navy Pier.
The public spaces to be redesigned include Gateway Park at the west entrance of Navy Pier, the Crystal Gardens, Pier Park, East End Park and the South Dock – along with smaller public spaces that dot the landscape of Chicago’s number one visitor attraction.
This free exhibition will run through mid- May. In conjunction with the exhibition, CAF will host a series of programs and lectures to further engage Chicagoans in the project. For additional information, please visit Navy Pier’s Centennial Vision website.

How can Navy Pier celebrate the 11-11-11 date in a unique way? Easy – by honoring a legendary mockumentary.
Navy Pier will be hosting “Navy Pier goes to 11” on Friday, November 11. Guests will get free rides on the Ferris wheel, reduced parking, and discounts on countless food and attraction options. There is also a free screening of “This Is Spinal Tap,” the fake rock documentary that coined the phrase “These go to eleven.”
The “11” theme is very apparent. Parking will be $11, America’s Dog has 11-cent French Fries, Capi’s Italian Kitchen has pizza and pop for $11.11, Handbag Couture has 11% off on all handmade bags, Shoreline Sightseeing has $11 Skyline Tours on Lake Michigan, and IMAX Theater has $11 ticket for Puss in Boots 3D, among an array of other specials. Also, “Spinal Tap” will be screened at 11:11 p.m.
And since November 11 is also Veterans Day, military personnel in uniform and veterans with military ID will also receive discounts on top of that. Deals for veterans include free parking, admission to the Chicago Children’s Museum, and rides on Skyline Tours and Water Taxis.
Go to Navy Pier on November 11, where you will be sure to have a good time, all the time.

No one will be able to say the Really Big Halloween Party’s title was misleading.

• One of the highlights of the three-week long party is magician Dennis Watkins, who will perform Harry Houdini’s Dreaded Upside Down Water Chamber Escape every day of the Halloween bash. That means Watkins, a Chicago magician, will recreate Houdini’s stunt 10 times over the course of the party.

The hit musical comedy Murder for Two has been extended, again, thanks to rave reviews and is now playing through Sunday, Oct. 16 at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater on Navy Pier.
A mix of Agatha Christie mystery, old-fashioned musical comedy and modern panache, this whodunit comes with a killer twist: one actor investigates the crime, the other plays all 13 suspects, and they both play the piano!
Following the murder of a well-known novelist, Officer Marcus Moscowicz is thrown into a houseful of eccentric and cunning characters—including a wife who is more concerned about stolen ice cream than her murdered husband and a twelve-member boys’ choir that happens to be nine members short. A hilarious display of wits and musical showmanship, this madcap musical mystery will tickle the ivories and your funny bone.
Purchase your tickets Sept. 7-11 using the promo code “MYSTERY” on Chicago Shakepeare Theatre’s website to save up to 20 percent on your purchase. Or, when calling the CST Box Office at 312-595-5600, mention the keyword “mystery” to receive the same discount. Tickets are only $20-$25 with this special offer.
And remember, CST audience members save 40 percent on guaranteed parking in Navy Pier garages.
