Not Your Mom’s Grocery Store

Posted on August 22nd, 2009 by Erin Callier

Culinaria, downtown St. Louis’ newest market, boasts a coffee bar, delectable prepared food section, pharmacy, free customer parking,  a “wine loft” where friends can gather or afficianados can choose from over 700 varietals, and occasionally even, live music.

A unique market meets urban gathering place, Culinaria offers a whole new grocery experience that isn’t just good for the locals, but offers visitors a great resource for grabbing a quick coffee, sandwich, and most especially, a gourmet spread for a summery urban picnic.

Just across from Old Post Office Square and a few blocks from the spectacular City Garden or Gateway Arch, Culinaria’s prepared food department is just the place to grab some yummy goods before heading to downtown’s finest outdoor attractions. Let the picnicking begin!

The Noshing Hour

Posted on August 6th, 2009 by Erin Callier

Whether you just got out of the theater, need to fill your belly with more than liquid fuel or simply keep rockstar hours, there are many reasons to seek out a bite to eat in the wee hours, but unfortunately, not so many non-fast food places to satisfy your nocturnal hunger. However, two new standouts are serving top-shelf cocktails alongside exquisite late-night fare.

Located in the Loop, the new Eclipse Restaurant features a late-night menu that many a folk prone to puns have called “out-of-this-world.” Nestled in the lunar-themed Moonrise Hotel, Eclipse serves their hand-cut truffle fries, applewood beef sliders and other post-party friendly fare until 2 a.m. each night of the week. The roof-top bar is not to be missed.

Open until 12:30 a.m., Tuesday through Saturday, brand new, bite-sized Niche Taste Bar serves a tastebud-blowing menu that changes nightly. Founded upon the principal of using fresh, local ingredients, Taste and its Mama Bear, Niche, are well-deserved culinary critic darlings. Check out Taste’s Tweets to see what gastronomic magic they’re serving up tonight.

Posted on August 1st, 2009 by Erin Callier

For many years, St. Louisans have had to travel to Chicago, or most recently, Kansas City, to shop the affordable women’s fashions and abundant accessories at Francesca’s Collections. Yes, it is a chain, but it’s impossible not to gravitate toward their reasonably priced clothing and diverse selection of jewelry, accessories and gifts.

Finally, St. Louisans and visitors to our fair city need not travel any further to peruse this chain’s fashionable selection . . . Francesca’s has arrived! Their new location in the Saint Louis Galleria opened last month and a second location, in West County Center, is slated to open in August 2009. Let the shopping and bargain hunting begin!

Posted on August 1st, 2009 by Erin Callier

St. Louis’ 2009 Downtown Restaurant Week kicks off this Monday, August 3rd-9th and features 25 of downtown’s most delicious eateries. This event does not involve tickets, wristbands, punch cards or the like. Diners simply attend a participating restaurant of their choice and select from a special 3-course dinner  menu (appetizer, entree and dessert) for $25 per person, plus tax and tip.  Last year’s event attracted over 15,000 foodies, so reservations are highly recommended.

To get a taste of the menu offerings durning Downtown Restaurant Week, click here. Some participating restaurants include The Drunken Fish for some out-of-this-world sushi, the brand new Red Kitchen & Bar for fresh takes on old classics, or Top of the Riverfront for an unparalleled view of the Gateway Arch and gourmet cuisine.

When making your reservation at the restaurant of your choosing, be sure to mention “Downtown Restaurant Week.”
